This integration requires assistance from Mapipedia for setup and configuration. Please get in touch with our Support Team at support@earthranger.com and we’ll guide you through the process to ensure everything is set up correctly.
Scope
Gundi’s integration with Mapipedia enables connection of Gsat and/or Ceres tags (Ceres Ranch, Ceres Rancher) to EarthRanger and Movebank.
For Ceres Tags, the integration includes movement data, timestamp, source identifier, and any additional information (such as temperature, location accuracy, activity level, etc.) sent by Mapipedia to EarthRanger through Gundi. It also includes “high activity” and “activity none” alerts to EarthRanger. Important: We have a different guide for Ceres Wild tags.
Prerequisites
Data Source
You will need:
A Mapipedia account is required.
Support from the Mapipedia team may be necessary.
Important: Mapipedia applies a small monthly fee per tag sending data to EarthRanger.
Data Delivery
EarthRanger
To send movement data to EarthRanger, you will need:
Please refer to EarthRanger's documentation or contact Support.
A long-lived token for authentication assigned to the user created in the previous step.
Please refer to EarthRanger's documentation or contact Support.
To send event data to EarthRanger, you will need:
Confirm that the required event types are configured in EarthRanger. More information on this below.
Update the user (e.g., “Gundi Service Account”) to give it permission to the Event Category hosting your event types.
Guide for Configuring Event Types
1. Events for High and None Activity with Ceres Tags
Contact Mapipedia to connect your devices to their system.
Set up a Connection in Gundi. Contact our team if you need assistance.
Share your Connection API key with your Mapipedia contact.
Allow your devices to send data through Mapipedia → Gundi → EarthRanger.
Verify the integration and reach out for support as needed.
Configuration Steps
Ceres Portal
If your integration is with Ceres products (Ceres Tags, Ceres Ranch, Ceres Rancher), log in to the Ceres Portal and configure Mapipedia as your Software. If you need help with this step, please contact Ceres or Mapipedia.
Visit the Connection you created during this process, and copy the API key. To do this, go to the Connection overview tab, find the API key field, select the text and copy it.
Send this API key, your Mapipedia account username, and your Organization name to your contact at Mapipedia, requesting an integration with EarthRanger/Gundi.
This integration is classified as a “Push” type, meaning Mapipedia services send data to Gundi on their regular schedule, and Gundi immediately attempts to forward it to the destination specified in your Connection.
Final Steps
EarthRanger
The following configurations are optional:
1. Select the data you want to see in the map.
1.1. Log in to EarthRanger as an admin. 1.2. Go to Source providers. 1.3. Click on Subject Details Configuration. 1.4. Configure the additional information you would like to see on the map.
2. Rename your Subjects.
3. Assign your Subjects to a Subject Group.
Please refer to EarthRanger's documentation or contact Support.
The time it takes for data to appear in your destination system depends on several factors, such as latency introduced by the source, network conditions, and intermediary systems. While these factors may vary, Gundi typically checks for available data at scheduled intervals (approximately every 10 minutes).
If data is not available in your system after this interval, please check the source of the data for its availability. If the issue persists, contact our Support team for assistance.
Troubleshooting
If your devices are not showing in your desired destination (e.g, EarthRanger or Movebank), you can try these steps:
Confirm if the data is available to Mapipedia. Contact someone at Mapipedia if you don't have access to this information or if you detect that the trackers are not sending data to Mapipedia's services.
Ask our Support Team to investigate the connection between Mapipedia and your destination.
