Add a Related Event in EarthRanger Mobile

Last Updated: November 05, 2026

When you respond to an Event in the field, you can record what you find as a new Event linked to the original. EarthRanger groups the two into an Incident, so your operations room sees the whole story in one place.

For example, if you're sent to follow up on a fire alert, open the alert Event and add a new Event describing what you found on the ground.

Before you start

  • You need EarthRanger Mobile 3.4.0 or later.
  • Your site must use Incidents, and your account needs permission for the Incident Event Category (usually Security). If you don't see the Add Event button, contact your site administrator.
  • The Event you're responding to must be on your device. Turn on Shared Events to see Events created by other users.
  1. Open the Event you're following up on from the Events list or the map. It opens as read-only.
  2. Tap Add Event in the bottom-right corner.
  3. Choose an Event Category and Event Type.
  4. Fill in the Event form and add any attachments.
  5. Tap Submit.

When your Event uploads, EarthRanger creates an Incident that includes both Events. If you're offline, the Event stays in Pending Sync and the Incident is created once you reconnect.

Good to know

  • Each related Event you add creates an Incident, so use Add Event only when the new Event belongs with the original.
  • To view the Incident, see which Events it contains, or remove an Event from it, open it in EarthRanger Web. See Organize Related Events with Incidents in EarthRanger Web.

Troubleshooting

I don't see the Add Event button. Check that the Event is read-only, meaning it was created by someone else. Then check with your administrator that your account has permission for the Incident Category. If permissions were changed recently, go to Settings and tap Sync.
