This integration requires assistance from Telonics for setup and configuration. Please get in touch with our Support Team at support@earthranger.com and we’ll guide you through the process to ensure everything is set up correctly.
Prerequisites
Data Source
Telonics account.
Data Delivery
EarthRanger
To send event data to EarthRanger, you will need:
- A special EarthRanger user with permissions to post event data.
- A long-lived token for authentication assigned to the user created in the previous step.
- Confirm that the required event types and schemas are configured in EarthRanger.
- Required event types:
immobility
,immobility_all_clear
- Required event types:
Please refer to EarthRanger's documentation or contact Support.
Integration Process Summary
- Contact our Support team asking for an integration with Telonics.
- We can help with all the configurations in Gundi.
- Our team will also work directly with Telonics to connect your devices with your chosen destination.

Configuration Steps
Click on Create Connection.
Select Telonics.
Select your Organization.
Enter a name for this Connection (e.g., “Telonics - AreaName”)
Click Next.
Select a Destination. Please consult our guides.
Final Steps
Visit the Connection you created during this process, and copy the API key. To do this, go to the Connection overview tab, find the API key field, click on the eye icon to show the key, select the text and copy it.

Send this API key, your Telonics account identifier, and your EarthRanger site name to your Telonics contact, requesting an integration with Gundi.

Troubleshooting
Important Note: Some locations are not sent to Gundi
Not all locations are forwarded to Gundi because some are considered insufficiently accurate. This decision was made by Telonics out of concern that low-confidence locations might be sent to EarthRanger, potentially prompting conservation teams to act on misleading data before thoroughly evaluating its quality.
This is the information shared with us:
Telonics apply stricter criteria for location accuracy before sending data to EarthRanger. Specifically, they only send locations marked as “Resolved QFP” and exclude those labeled “Resolved QFP (Uncertain)” or “Unresolved QFP.” The two most important quality metrics they rely on are Satellite Count and DOP (Dilution of Precision).
QFP performs best when the collar has an unobstructed view of the sky. In areas with limited sky visibility, traditional GPS fixes (which take longer but work with as few as 4–5 satellites) are often more reliable.
With their newer “-5” models, the improvements in battery life are substantial enough that switching to traditional GPS fixes is a viable option—even preferable in some cases. Additionally, regular GPS fixes use less bandwidth, which could lower monthly Iridium transmission costs.
Data Delivery
The time it takes for data to appear in your destination system depends on several factors, such as latency introduced by the source, network conditions, and intermediary systems. While these factors may vary, Gundi typically checks for available data at scheduled intervals (approximately every 10 minutes).
If data is not available in your system after this interval, please check the source of the data for its availability. If the issue persists, contact our Support team for assistance.
