What is Ecoscope?
A: Ecoscope is our new data analysis and reporting tool designed to make it easier for conservation teams to turn data into actionable information. At its core, Ecoscope provides ready-to-use workflow templates that automatically pull data from data sources like EarthRanger and generate dashboards filled with maps, graphs, and key insights by simply filling out a form.
While these capabilities won’t be available in the initial GA release, future versions of EcoScope will support more advanced use cases; such as building custom reports with tools like Python, R, Plotly, and R Shiny, as well as potential integrations with platforms like Apache Superset and the application of AI-powered analysis.
When is the transition happening?
A: We are targeting General Availability (GA) of Ecoscope by September 2025. This marks the beginning of Phase 1, which will include the initial set of features and templates. We’ll continue to improve and expand the platform after GA, with new modules and capabilities rolled out over time.
Why are we moving to Ecoscope?
A: Our goal with Ecoscope is to provide a more effective way for teams to turn their data into action. Many users have shared the need for tools that make it easier to analyze information, spot trends, and generate insights that directly inform decision-making in the field. Ecoscope is designed to help close that loop and connect the dots between data collection, visualization, and operational response in a way that’s intuitive, efficient, and conservation-driven.
What do I need to do?
A: We’re aiming for a smooth and simple transition. When Ecoscope launches, we’ll provide training sessions, support materials, and documentation to help you get started. That said, one of our core design goals is ease-of-use.
What are the advantages of Ecoscope?
Easier to Use:
Ecoscope is being built with a user-friendly interface that streamlines the reporting process and makes it easier for a wider range of team members to interact with and benefit from data.
Modular and Extensible:
Ecoscope is designed with a modular architecture that will eventually allow teams to build or customize reports using modern programming tools like Python and R. This won’t be available in the initial release, but it’s part of the longer-term roadmap to make Ecoscope as powerful and flexible as possible.
Improved Data Integration:
Ecoscope is designed with future data integration in mind. While the initial release will focus on EarthRanger data, we plan to expand its capabilities to bring in information from other key sources such as SMART and satellite imagery. The goal is to enable users to analyze and combine data across systems, supporting richer insights, uncovering hidden patterns, and making more informed decisions over time.
What is the data privacy policy of Ecoscope?
A: Ecoscope will follow the same data governance and sharing policies as EarthRanger. You can review the EarthRanger Data Sharing Policy here:
