Users can now export Event data along with short-lived file URLs that link directly to each event’s attachments. This feature allows faster, more secure access to images, reports, and other media associated with Events.
What are File URLs?
File URLs are short-lived, secure links that appear in your exported .csv
file when an Event includes attachments (e.g., photos, reports). These links allow quick viewing or downloading of files without needing to log into EarthRanger.
How to Use File URLs in Exported Event Data
1. Filter Events in the Event Feed
Navigate to the Event Feed in EarthRanger Web and use filters to narrow down the list of Events you want to export (e.g., by type, date range, location).
2. Export the Filtered Data
Click the “Field Events” button to initiate an export.
EarthRanger will generate a .csv
file containing:
- Standard Event metadata (e.g., time, location, type, priority)
- A new column called “Attachment Links”
3. Access Attachments via File URLs
Open the exported .csv
file and scroll to the “Attachment Links” column.
- If attachments exist for an Event, you’ll see a clickable URL.
- Paste the URL in your browser to view or download the file.
These URLs can be shared with collaborators if needed, but be aware of their time-limited nature.
Security and Sharing
- Temporary: File URLs expire after a short period to prevent unauthorized access.
- Secure: Links are uniquely generated per export and do not expose the broader file system.
- Best Practice: Download attachments promptly or coordinate access timing with collaborators.
