Upgrade Your Event Types Today!

Last Updated: September 30, 2026

After October 15, 2026, you will not be able to create or edit V1 Event Types.

Converting to V2 is the only way to regain the ability to edit and build Event Types going forward.

V2 gives you access to the Event Form Editor capabilities, including:

  • Drag-and-drop form building — no schema or code editing required
  • A full range of field types — Sections, Headers, Attachments (photo, video, audio, document), Choice Lists (from EarthRanger data or custom options), Date and Time, Numeric, Text, Collections (repeatable entries), and Location
  • Live testing — temporarily activate a form to test it directly in EarthRanger Web/Mobile before finalizing (note: since there's no separate preview mode, activating a form for testing makes it live, so any events submitted during a test are real data)

What's Changing

  • V1 Event Type configuration becomes read-only — with no way back. After October 15, 2026, site administrators will no longer be able to create or edit V1 Event Type configurations, under any circumstances. The only available action will be to view or deactivate a V1 Event Type. Migrating that Event Type to V2 is what restores full editing and configuration access.
  • New Event Types must be created in V2. All new Event Types will need to be built using the Event Form Editor, which offers capabilities not available in V1.
  • System Events will be generated in V2. Going forward, system-generated Events will use V2 Event Types.
  • Data capture itself is not affected. Users will still be able to capture data using existing V1 Event Types through the platform after October 15. This deprecation changes how Event Types are configured and managed, not your day-to-day ability to record events.

What You Need to Do

  1. Migrate now, while you have full control. Once October 15, 2026 passes, configuration access is gone for good — migrating today is the only way to review, select, and shape how your Event Types move to V2.
  2. Review your integrations. If you use integrations that automatically generate Events, contact the EarthRanger support team ahead of the deprecation date to confirm your configuration will continue to work as expected.
  3. Don't wait until early next year. Any V1 Event Types not migrated by early next year will be automatically converted to V2. Nothing is deleted, but you lose the ability to review, select, and control that conversion yourself.
