Introducing EarthRanger Mobile
Good morning, or good afternoon, , or good night, depending on where you are.
I hope you're having a really great day, and don't worry, if you're not, it's going to get better, because we're here to talk about the EarthRanger mobile app. Yay!
We're going to give a little introduction to the app and its capabilities—just a little bit—because we want you to get excited about what it can do. You can check out the rest of the videos for a more in-depth look.
The EarthRanger mobile app is a free application designed to assist wildlife conservation and ecosystem monitoring efforts. It’s a portable extension of the EarthRanger platform, providing a user-friendly interface for tasks like:
Real-Time Tracking:
Tracking automatically records your location data as you move while using the app.
If an internet connection is available, it uploads data in real time to the EarthRanger platform.
No connection? No problem! The tracks will upload as soon as the app connects to the network.
No data is lost, ever.
Recording Patrol Data:
The app facilitates structured patrols with specific goals, allowing rangers to collect valuable data by recording noteworthy occurrences.
For example, a user started a routine patrol, which tracked movements and captured data from noteworthy events during the patrol.
Real-Time Data Collection:
You can collect data while working in the field, encapsulating specific incidents during monitoring activities.
For instance: an injured animal, a rhino sighting, or other wildlife observations.
You can enter detailed information about the event, add attachments, and include notes.
Tracking Movement of Subjects:
You can see the locations of other subjects in your EarthRanger system, such as:
Collared animals
Other EarthRanger mobile users
Camera traps
Vehicles
You can also view the tracks of these subjects and navigate to them.

Installing EarthRanger Mobile
Hello, welcome back, or hello for the first time,
if this is the first time that you're seeing one of our EarthRanger mobile app videos.
Today we will be learning how easy it is to install the EarthRanger mobile app on a device.
Right now, at the moment of recording this video, we have five localizations available in the app:
English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Swahili.
If your device's language settings are set to English, the app will display in English for you.
If your device is set to Spanish, the app will display in Spanish.
For this example, our device is in English, so the app will be installed in English.
We have two login options in the app:
Login with a username and password, which we’ll use in this example.
Login using user profiles, which is covered in another video.
Now, for installation:
You can either scan the QR code with your device camera—
the QR on the left for Android devices and the one on the right for iOS devices—
or search for the application directly from the app store.
That’s what we’re doing now.
We’ll go to the Play Store because this is an Android device.
We’ll search for EarthRanger.
It’s already in my search history, so I’ll select it and tap "Install."
Depending on your internet connection, installation might take a few minutes or seconds.
Luckily, our connection is decent, so it’s installing quickly.
Once installed, tap "Open."
Here’s the login screen.
Remember, you can’t create a new user account on the mobile app.
This must be done on the admin side of the EarthRanger platform.
So, you need to already have an account to log in.
For this demo, we’ll select our demo platform and a username with all the necessary permissions.
We’ll cover permissions in another video.
First, enter the site name of your platform.
For this demo, we’ll use a site called "Easter Island."
Next, enter the username—here, it’s "Gaby L."
I’ll pause the video while I enter the password since it’s private.

Welcome back! I’ve entered my secret password, which you’ll never know.
There’s a "Remember Me" checkbox that saves the site name and username,
so you don’t have to re-enter them each time you log in.
However, it won’t save your password for security reasons.
Since I’d rather not type this information again, I’ll check "Remember Me" and log in.
It’s essential to have a stable internet connection during login,
as the app will sync data such as User Accounts, Event Categories,
Event Types, Patrol Types, Subject Groups, and Subject Tracks.
Once synced, the app will be fully operational in offline mode.
Remember, don’t interrupt the sync process or put the app in the background while it’s syncing.
Keep it active on the screen for successful syncing.
After syncing, the app will request permissions to access the device’s location.
It’s crucial to select "Precise" and "While using the app."

Installing EarthRanger Mobile
