Gundi FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Gundi?

Gundi is an open-source platform designed to help conservationists manage and protect wildlife by simplifying data exchange between technologies. It enables seamless integration of sensor data into conservation software, empowering users to make informed decisions.

Our mission is to connect technologies and people, ensuring conservation areas have optimal access to data and knowledge for effective action.

Why use Gundi?

  • One platform to connect – Integrate once and send sensor data to multiple applications for real-time analysis.
  • Free and open-source – Gundi is freely available and community-driven.
  • User-friendly setup – Easily create and configure data connections.
  • Device independence – Connect any device or application with Gundi.

How can I integrate our technology with Gundi?

If you are a conservationist who has acquired, or is considering acquiring, a specific technology for your work, we recommend reviewing our list of supported devices. If your technology is not listed, please contact our team and share any relevant details, such as manufacturer information or technical specifications, to help us assess the possibility of integration. Please note that the time required to support a new device can vary depending on several factors, ranging from a few days to several months.

If you are a developer of physical or “virtual” sensors interested in integrating your technology with our system, please reach out to us to determine the most efficient integration path. Some available options include:

Data Sources

  • Integration via Gundi’s API: Often the preferred method, as it minimizes latency and typically does not require coordination with our development team.
  • Integration via Webhooks: This approach allows your system to automatically push data to us in near real time whenever an event occurs. We can receive, process, and transform the data to match the required format, reducing the technical overhead for your team. Depending on various factors, these integrations might be completed through configuration alone, or might require coordination with our development team.
  • Integration via your API: A common option that introduces a slight delay (approximately 5 minutes) and requires coordination with our development team.

Data Destinations

  • Integration via your API: At the moment, this is the only available option. The process involves understanding your system, user requirements, and API. Providing documentation and access to a test environment helps us accelerate development as we build the software needed to push data into your system.
