Mobile User Permissions

To maximize the functionality of EarthRanger Mobile, configure specific permissions to enable users and profiles to effectively use the patrol, reporting, and tracking features. Below are the minimum requirements to utilize these features.

 

Note: The following process involves editing system settings in the EarthRanger Admin app. If you lack access or are uncomfortable making these changes, please contact EarthRanger Support for assistance.

 

 

Patrols

EarthRanger Mobile allows users to start and end a patrol based on your site’s patrol types. To view patrol types, users must have the following minimum permission:

  • Can View Patrol Type

On the admin side, you can control each user's permissions. Pre-configured permission sets are available under User Accounts and then Permissions Sets.

To use patrols, the designated user must have the following permissions:

  • Can Add Patrol: Allows users to start a patrol.
  • Can Change Patrol: Allows users to update a patrol, such as ending it.

 

Admin Setup 

 

To manage permission sets on your site, use the EarthRanger Admin interface.

  1. Navigate to the User Accounts section and click on Permission Sets.
  2. Click the button in the upper right corner to add a new permission set.
  3. Enter a name for the permission set, e.g., Patrol Permissions - Mobile.
  4. In the Permissions section, add the following permissions by searching for them in the search bar:
    • Can View Patrol Type
    • activity | patrol | Can Add Patrol
    • activity | patrol | Can Change Patrol
  5. Click the Save button at the bottom of the page to finalize.

Assign the Patrol Permissions - Mobile set to users who will work with the patrols feature in EarthRanger Mobile.

 

 Events

EarthRanger Mobile allows users to create and upload events with attachments, notes, and images. When you create an event category in EarthRanger Admin, the platform automatically generates permission groups for that category with the following permissions:

  • Can Create [CATEGORY_NAME] Events
  • Can Delete [CATEGORY_NAME] Events
  • Can Read [CATEGORY_NAME] Events
  • Can Update [CATEGORY_NAME] Events

EarthRanger Mobile requires the "create" permission to enable users to add events related to the selected event category. Ensure that EarthRanger Mobile users are included in this permission set.
